Festival 2023

Music, Speech and Drama (Note – all same weekend)

Friday 17th March (6pm-9pm)

Saturday 18th March (9am – 5pm)

Newcastle under Lyme Festival is an annual event, organised by volunteers, which provides a valuable performance opportunity in speech, drama, and music. We aim to provide a well organised and enjoyable festival; a platform for amateur performers of any age, from far or near, to demonstrate their talents.

A Word

from the Chair

Dear Festival Friends,

We were thrilled to hold a ‘normal’ festival this year, although we did consciously limit group performances to 12 people. We also decided to split any big classes, to avoid large numbers of people in any of the rooms. We had three busy and enjoyable sessions of classes.

Our adjudicators provided helpful feedback to our competitors, and they all expressed their enjoyment and appreciation of all the preparation work that had allowed the event to run so smoothly. (We would value any feedback that will help us to make the 2023 Festival even better!)

Our decision to move some Pianoforte classes from the Library to the Hall, at Clayton Hall Academy, did allow for larger audiences at junior piano classes, and we also had large audiences for some of the classes at our new venue in St Luke’s Methodist Church, Clayton.

The Speech and Drama classes had large audiences, the performances were of a high standard and many very high scores were awarded. We will be inviting some of the highest scorers, from Speech, Drama and Music, to take part in a fund-raising concert at St Luke’s at 7pm on 7th May.

Again, I wish to thank the Festival Committee who have worked extremely hard in the past year.

With best wishes,

-Liz Richardson
