The composition is to be submitted at the time of the entry and played, or sung, at the festival. It can be for solo or a small group of instruments or voices not exceeding 6 performers including a conductor, if used. The composer(s) is the named entrant for this class. The onus is on the entrant to arrange for the performance of the composition, although the entry will not be judged on the performance or the lyrics. The composer need not perform but must be present. A copy of the music for the adjudicator (preferably printed) must be sent to the Entries Coordinator or emailed as a scanned file (or equivalent) to entries@newcastlefestival.org.uk, giving the entry reference in the case of an on-line entry. The order will be treated as incomplete until the music is provided and it must arrive by the entry close date. The composition should not have previously been published or entered in another festival.

The festival organisers reserve the right to publish the work where this would help promote the festival. These classes could be held on the Friday or Saturday of the music weekend. The winners' trophies will be held for one year.
